A year before easyJet became a public company, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, the airline's founder, put some noses out of joint at an aviation industry lunch in Brussels.

As well as correctly predicting the company's float, Haji-Ioannou forecast the demise of Europe's charter airlines, saying they would be forced out of business by upstart firms like his.
