Stelios to bring car rental home

easyCar, the rental company founded by Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou, plans to set up a car club business in the UK.

The car hire firm has joined with lastminute.com founder Brent Hoberman and venture capitalists PROfounders Capital to launch the venture in 2012, to allow private owners rent out their vehicles when not using them.

The concept, known as The Car Club, is based on the easyJet philosophy of ‘sweating the asset’ to maximise the vehicle’s value to the owner.

The idea, known as collaborative consumption, allows car owners to earn money when they are not using their vehicles and give renters a quick and local alternative to a conventional car hire company.
